If you are one of those lucky people who is #blessed with lots of hair texture, then you are also probably familiar with frizz. I know I am. Too much moisture in the air and my hair doubles in size and I'm left with the dreaded frizzy hair halo. While I have yet to figure out the solution to New York August humidity, I have figured out the best ways to avoid frizz for the rest of the year.
If you're still sleeping on scratchy low thread count sheets, it's time to chuck them and prepare yourself for your new and improved hair (and sleep)! Cheap sheets have a tendency to snag and gnarl hair- as I learned when I first started sleeping over at my boyfriend's place. I'd go to bed with my hair looking smooth and wake up with a rat's nest. We've since upgraded his sheets and it has made a huge difference. You don't have to sleep on silk sheets (those don't go with my personal decor); high thread count cotton sheets will do the trick.
...In you hair products, that is. Take a look at your hair sprays, balm, and texturizers. If they contain short-chain alcohols (look for ingredients such as ethanol, SD alcohol, SD alcohol 40, alcohol denat, propanol, propyl alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol), chuck them. These are similar in structure to the type of alcohol that we drink, and they are super drying. If you use them in hair products they're going to dry out your hair and make it more prone to breakage and frizz.
Skip the Shower
While it may sound contradictory, cutting back on the frequency that you shampoo your hair often leads to smoother, healthier hair. You don't have to wait weeks or anything like that; just skipping every other shampoo should give your hair's natural oils a chance to do their job and moisturize dry strands.
