We receive a lot of questions about how frequently you should wash you face. Is once a day enough? Is twice a day too much? The answer is surprisingly simple.
To Cleanse or Not to Cleanse
The rule of thumb when it comes to washing your face is to not over do it. Over-washing can cause excess dryness, and can actually exacerbate some skin problems. Sticking to face washing once a day is best, with a few exceptions. Always wash your face after working out, and if you have excessively oily skin you'll probably be fine with a twice-a-day routine.
Use the Right Face Cleanser
However, the once-a-day rule only works if you're washing your face with a good cleanser. Make sure that your face wash doesn't contain fragrance, SLS, or any parabens, as these ingredients can be irritating to the skin, and harmful to the environment. Your cleanser should also be suited for the pH of your skin. In other words make sure your cleanser has a lower pH between a 3 and a 5 for the best results. Be careful of most drug store cleansers as they are generally on the high side when it come to pH. The higher the pH the dryer and itchier your skin will feel.
