How To Pick Your Next Beach Vacay, A Flow Chart
Deciding where you'll go for your next beach vacation can be difficult. Luckily The ANY Mag came up with this easy to follow flow chart to guide you to your next domestic beach vacay.
Asbury Park, NJ
This Jersey beach town is best known for providing young musicians like Bruce Springsteen, Patti Smith, and Jon Bon Jovi venues to play during the early years of their careers, but Asbury Park has so much more to offer.
Head to the boardwalk lined with concession stands and art deco buildings or check out the revitalized downtown shops and eateries. At night, catch a show at one of the many music venues such as The Stone Pony or The Saint, or stop by Paradise to experience the thriving gay scene. Most recently a new hotel popped up along the shore called The Asbury which is definitely bringing some Brooklyn cool to the beach side.
P-town is New England's gay summer destination. Sitting at the very tip of the Cape Cod peninsula, this charming town is anything but quaint. Drag shows, restaurants, and celebrity sightings give this resort town all the personality of a big city with the addition of beautiful beaches, sand dunes, and views of the Atlantic. Crash in town at The Asbury's sister hotels the Salt Inn or the Eben House, and be sure to enjoy the afternoon tea dance at the Boatslip.
Venice Beach, CA
Venice Beach is the only West Coast spot we have on the list. Maybe we're a little biased, or maybe the East Coast just has better beaches, but either way Venice Beach is awesome.
Hang out on the boardwalk where you can take in some serious people watching, get a tattoo, obtain a medical marijuana license, and see a women swallow a sword within your first hour of strolling. Walk down Abbot Kinney Blvd for some serious shopping, restaurants, and bars. And be sure to grab a surfboard and catch a few waves.
Miami Beach, FL
The ANY Magazine has a special place in our hearts for Miami. It's a New Yorker's perfect vacation spot. A few hours flight lands you in a topical paradise filled with all the glamour and big city necessities that a Manhattanite could dream of. Enjoy the warm waters and sandy beaches, eat great food and drink delicious cocktails at hotel pools, and enjoy some art while you're at it. Check out our Miami City Guide for some of our favorite spots to eat, sleep, play, and drink.
The Hamptons are great, but Montauk is something different. All the way at the end of Long Island, this beach town has a bit of everything. Surf at Ditch Plains, hike through Montauk State Park or hang out in town with a cocktail at The Surf Lodge. Some may say it gets a bit sceney, but there are plenty of spots where you can still have a great time without having to worry about all that noise.
Editors Pick: Get a meal at The Crow's Nest and hang out down by the cabanas along the lake- it's one of the best spots in The Hamptons.
