A Day Trip To The Rockaways

In recent years the Rockaways have begun to offer more than just white sand and Atlantic Ocean waves. A sprinkling of eateries, shops, and summer pop-ups have started to dot the Queens peninsula. The ANY team, unable to resist the idea of delicious food and sunny beaches, ventured out to make a day trip guide to the Rockaways.

Start your day off bright and early with a breakfast burrito and a smoothie from Anna Bow's. If you need a little more of a pick-me- up, they have a full coffee and expresso bar to infuse some caffeine into your veins.

If you journey down to Beach 106th street, you'll reach your one stop shop for cool summer refreshment. Enjoy frozen drinks, ice cream, smoothies, popsicles, shakes, and juices, on the beach the way they were meant to be at Caracas & Conchos. We recommend skipping the arepas and doubling up on the frozen sangria.

Once you have had enough beach time and have developed a bit of an appetite it's time to head over to Playland Motel's Playland Grill. The surf lodge vibe is only made better by their excellent cocktails and killer nachos.

At 92-12 Rockaway Beach Blvd sits the coolest shop in the Rockaways, Off Season. Designer and owner, Abra, stocks the shop with her in-house brand which includes magenta camp shirts, oversized beach towels, and flowy caftans. Alongside the NYC made wears are novelty boob mugs, sunscreen, and tanning oils; making it the perfect hipsters beach shop.

Your last stop, if it's not more sun-bathing on the beach, will have to be Rockaway Beach Surf Club. This event space, restaurant, and bar is all about celebrating surf culture and the Rockaways. Grab a Tacoway Beach fish taco and a fresh squeezed juice and socialize with local surfers and other beach goers.
