Meet Alder New York Customer: Amy Bosk
Meet Amy Bosk, a young New York City mom who is passionate about helping people, and sometimes gets a little crazy with the eyebrow tweezers to get relaxed. Amy's a real life ANY customer whose morning routine has been turned upside down since the birth of her first child and Alder New York products have helped make things just a bit easier. The ANY team visited her at her waterfront Astoria apartment where she lives with her husband, son, and two very friendly cats, to take a peek into her life.
WHERE ARE YOU FROM AND WHERE DO YOU LIVE NOW?
I'm from Elmira, NY (about 4 hours west of the city) and I now live in Astoria.
WHAT DO YOU DO?
I am a social worker with my LCSW and work as the assistant director of a supportive housing program for formerly homeless people with mental illness. I also recently began providing therapy in private practice in Astoria. It's something I have always wanted to do, and I am so excited to be getting started.
WHY DO YOU DO WHAT YOU DO?
Helping people is something I am very passionate about. Making a connection with someone who feels lost, stuck or hopeless goes such a long way, and so many people are in need of this kind of connection.
WHAT'S YOUR MORNING ROUTINE?
My morning routine has changed so much since having a baby. I have always gotten myself ready quickly, but having a baby has taken that to a new level! I get up and play with my son for a while and get him ready for daycare (make his lunch, get him dressed and packed up). Sometimes putting his pants on takes ten minutes. My husband takes him to daycare and after they leave I have about 45 minutes to get myself out the door. I hate coming home to a messy apartment, so I always clean up before I leave (put away toys, do the dishes, make the bed, fold laundry, etc.). It's so much easier when it's just me at home and that 45 minutes in the morning is the only time when that's the case. Once that's complete, I jump in the shower (usually with a shower cap so I don't need to bother with washing my hair) or if I'm really low on time I just wash my face. Then, I put my makeup on, get dressed, and run out the door.
WHAT INSPIRES YOU?
Working toward my goals inspires me and my relationships/interactions with my family and friends. And not to sound totally cheesy, but watching my son experience the world is so totally inspiring.
WHAT DO YOU LIKE TO DO TO RELAX?
Yoga and sleep. I also love to pluck my eyebrows when I'm really in need of relaxation!
WHAT'S YOUR PERFECT WEEKEND?
My perfect weekend is spending time with my husband and son. Making breakfast in the mornings, going to the park in the afternoons, and snuggling up together in the evening. I also always try to make time for yoga on Sunday mornings during my son's nap.
HAS BEING A MOTHER CHANGED YOUR GROOMING ROUTINE?
So much! Overall, becoming a mom has made me become much more efficient, which has allowed me to strip down my routine to the essentials. I waste so much less time now, and feel like I get a lot more done.
WHAT'S YOUR MOST USED ALDER NEW YORK PRODUCT?
Definitely the Hair Powder in Eucalyptus. I used to wash my hair daily, and it was fairly time consuming with washing, drying, styling etc. After my son was born, I started washing my hair less and less, and actually found that it got healthier. It also felt good to take a faster shower and send less "stuff" down the drain from an environmental perspective. [My cousin] told me about the dry shampoo, and that it was all natural and it seemed like a great fit for my lifestyle. I looooove it.
HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE?
My style is casual and easy-going. My style definitely reflects an energetic "mom" lifestyle in NYC and I like to wear shoes/clothes that I can run around in for the day, but still look cute. I have been working toward whittling down my wardrobe to make it even simpler.
FAVORITE SONG RIGHT NOW?
I'm so behind the times with music, but am really enjoying Jenny Lewis' new album.
Falling asleep on the couch at 9:30 is the new normal but overall I am in bed by 11.
